Built next to a 17th century Inn on the banks of the Teign estuary the hotel offers a (modern) comfortable atmosphere whether your stay is for business or pleasure.

There has been a hostelry on the site since Roman times.

It was the site of a tidal ford and travellers would arrive and wait to cross the river.

The hostelry became known as the passage way across the river now the Passage House.

In later years a granite railway was built to link the quarries on Dartmoor with the Stover Canal shipping granite which was used on many of Londons famous buildings.

Also china clay was mined locally and shipped out via the Hackney Canal.

The river was a hive of activity with the Lightermen and Barges working the estuary and canals.

The ruins of their cottages are still to be seen on the banks of the river along from the Inn.

We are perfectly situated as a base to explore the delights of Devon from the towering red sandstone cliffs and sheltered sandy coves with beautiful bays along the coas
